Thierry Donard, director of the "Nuit de la Glisse" for more than 30 years will present during this meeting his approach to cinematography in live action outdoors and in extreme conditions. He will discuss his relationship to the technical equipment on which he relies for the making of his images and the impact that these choices have on the production and post-production of his feature documentaries made for the cinema. From1980 he and his avant-garde group of skier and surfer friends created the first feature-length film dedicated to action sports to be broadcast on TV in France, released under the label “Nuit de la Glisse” which was relaunched 1996 and was shown on the biggest distribution network throughout Europe.

In 1978, American film director and action sports film pioneer Dick Barrymore took Thierry under his wing and later worked alongside him for 10 years. Thierry’s goal was to bring these niche sport films to the great cinematic theaters of the world, and has thus far greatly succeeded.

In 1980 he and his avant-garde group of skier and surfer friends created the first feature-length film dedicated to action sports to be broadcast on TV in France, released under the label “Nuit de la Glisse”. He then continued between 1989-94 with the concept series “Pushing the Limits”.

In 1996 he relaunched the “Nuit de la Glisse” series with the intention of extending his films to cinema theaters. These films are now part of one of the biggest European extreme sport labels with the biggest distribution network throughout Europe. With new diffusion partners such as Netflix, his new label

 

 

Nuit de la Glisse was born at the end of the 70’s by a group of inspired visionaries, giving birth to a true social phenomenon, today known under the French term ‘Glisse’.

Today, ‘NDG Cinema’ is the new name for ‘Nuit de la Glisse’ international film label. It embodies the origins of this trend, and have evolved over the last 4 decades to encompass newly emerging action outdoor sports, while at the same time, documenting the amazing and exciting developments in our original passions, surfing and snow sports.

By gathering together all the different sports fans to one common and unique events for the last 40 years at cinema halls across the world, NDG Cinema has positioned itself as a legitimate and recognizable brand. The event consists, above all, of a previously unreleased film featuring action outdoor sports such as surfing, skiing, snowboarding, base jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding and many more, filmed in breathtaking settings all around the planet.
